Primary School Teacher

We are looking for a Primary School Teacher for individual, structured home education for a 7-year-old child.

This is not a nanny position.

This is an academic teaching role with a clear daily schedule, subjects, and learning goals.

Working hours:

Monday – Friday

10:30 – 17:30

Academic lessons before online school:

• English Language & Literature

• Speech & Communication

• Mathematics

• Science (part 1 – outdoor / observation-based)

12:30 – 14:30

Online school support:

• Child attends online classes

• Teacher supervises, helps with focus and understanding

14:30 – 15:00

Homework & online quizzes:

• Reviewing lesson material

• Explaining mistakes

• Supporting understanding (not just completing tasks)

15:00 – 15:20

Lunch & rest (no teaching)

15:20 – 15:45

Science (part 2 – discussion, explanations, simple physics concepts)

15:45 – 16:45

Sinhala language:

• Alphabet

• Writing

• Vocabulary

• Simple everyday phrases

16:45 – 17:30

Wrap-up, light revision, calm activities

• Reading aloud (adapted texts, fairy tales, stories)

• Immediate retelling of the text (8–10 full sentences)

• Answering structured comprehension questions

• Writing:

• Present Simple

• Present Continuous

• Past Simple

• Introduction to Present Perfect

• Vocabulary:

• 5 new words per day

• Used in speech and writing

Speech & Communication

• Developing clear spoken English

• Retelling texts logically

• Explaining ideas, causes and consequences

• Speaking in full sentences

• Building structured thinking and reasoning

Mathematics (daily)

• Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division

• Column calculations

• Word problems

• Logical thinking tasks

Science / Environmental Studies (daily)

• Outdoor learning:

• plants

• insects

• animals

• nature observation

• Biology basics (how plants breathe, grow, etc.)

• Physics basics:

• water

• air

• light

• movement

• Encouraging curiosity and “why” questions

Sinhala Language

• Alphabet and writing

• Vocabulary

• Simple spoken communication

• At the end of each month, short assessments in:

1. Reading & Retelling

2. Phonics & Spelling

3. Vocabulary

4. Grammar

5. Writing

Results are used to:

• identify weak areas

• carry unfinished topics into the next month

• confirm mastered skills

Requirements:

• Experience as a Primary School Teacher

• Good level of spoken English

• Ability to follow a structured curriculum

• Calm, patient, and organized

• Willingness to work with an individual learning plan
