Vacancy: Commis I – Pastry & Bakery
About the Role
Ninewells Hospital is seeking a passionate and skilled Commis I – Pastry & Bakery to join our culinary team. The successful candidate will assist in the preparation and production of high-quality pastries, breads, cakes, desserts, and other baked goods while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety.
Entry Requirements
Certificate or Diploma in Bakery & Pastry, Culinary Arts, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a pastry and bakery kitchen.
Knowledge of bakery production techniques, ingredients, and food safety standards.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
Good communication and time management skills.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and bake a variety of breads, pastries, cakes, desserts, and other bakery products according to standard recipes.
Ensure consistency in product quality, taste, and presentation.
Assist with decorating cakes and pastries as required.
Monitor ingredient stock levels and report replenishment requirements.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry and bakery work area.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards at all times.
Minimize food waste through proper handling and storage of ingredients.
Assist in developing new bakery and pastry items when required.
Ensure all equipment is used and maintained safely.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Pastry Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
