Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and banking coordination. This role ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, statutory compliance, and effective supervision of accounting processes.
The Accountant works closely with management, auditors, tax consultants, regulatory authorities, and financial institutions to maintain financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
Oversee the company’s daily accounting operations and bookkeeping activities.
Ensure accurate posting of invoices, bills, receipts, journals, and adjustments.
Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations and ledger reviews.
Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and documented.
Manage the month-end closing process in a timely manner.
Financial Reporting
Prepare and review monthly management reports.
Ensure financial reports are submitted within agreed deadlines.
Provide clarifications and financial insights to management when required.
Coordinate with the CFO and Director for review and finalization of financial reports.
Accounting Team Coordination
Supervise and monitor accounts team workflow and activities.
Allocate tasks to team members and ensure timely completion.
Review accounting entries for accuracy and compliance.
Provide guidance, training, and ongoing support to accounting staff.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure timely preparation and submission of VAT, SSCL, and other statutory payments.
Support quarterly and annual tax filings.
Coordinate with external auditors for interim and annual audits.
Liaise with the Company Secretary regarding statutory filings and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a compliance calendar for regulatory and corporate deadlines.
Ensure legal and financial documents are properly maintained in the company’s digital records.
Banking & Financial Coordination
Coordinate with banks regarding operational requirements and documentation.
Handle banking correspondence and follow-ups.
Support payment processing and financial transactions when required.
Import Handling & Regulatory Approvals
Manage import-related financial documentation and processes.
Coordinate with clearing agents for customs clearance.
Liaise with TRCSL and Customs authorities for required approvals.
Ensure proper documentation and filing of all import-related records.
Tax Coordination
Coordinate with tax consultants regarding personal income tax matters of technical consultants.
Compile and provide required financial documentation for tax purposes.
Ensure proper documentation and record maintenance.
Stakeholder Communication
Act as the primary finance contact for relevant stakeholders.
Respond to accounting and reporting queries in a timely manner.
Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
Maintain proper documentation and organized digital filing systems.
Improve accounting workflows and processes where necessary.
Ensure internal financial controls are followed.
Identify discrepancies and resolve financial issues proactively.
Accounting System Management
Oversee accounting software usage and financial systems.
Ensure supporting documents are properly attached within the accounting system.
Maintain data accuracy, reconciliation integrity, and system backups.
Assist in system updates and process improvements.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Part qualification in CA / ACCA / CIMA will be an added advantage.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
Experience in financial reporting, taxation, and statutory compliance.
Skills
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication and coordination skills.
Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
Langue’s - Sinhala & English, Tamil will be an added advantage
