🎯 About the Role
We are seeking a Qualified Accountant to join our UK Accounting team, working directly on a portfolio of UK clients. The role spans the full client accounting cycle — from bookkeeping and VAT through to statutory accounts, personal tax and Companies House compliance — offering broad, hands-on exposure to UK client work in a fast-paced, professional environment.
🔑 Responsibilities
✅Prepare UK statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP/FRS 102 for a portfolio of clients.
✅Prepare monthly and periodic management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary.
✅Perform bookkeeping and ensure accurate maintenance of client ledgers and reconciliations.
✅Prepare and review UK corporation tax computations and returns.
✅Prepare personal tax returns, including Self Assessment and partnership returns, and advise on property income, capital gains and 60-day UK property reporting.
✅Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD), covering registration, scheme selection and the domestic reverse charge where applicable.
✅Manage sales and purchase ledgers, payment runs, credit control and bank reconciliations.
✅Ensure timely Companies House filings, including confirmation statements and iXBRL-tagged accounts.
✅Liaise directly with UK clients to gather information, resolve queries and provide updates.
✅Ensure all deliverables meet UK regulatory deadlines and internal quality standards.
✅Identify process improvements and contribute to the development of junior team members.
🌟 Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
✅A degree in Accounting and Finance (or a closely related field), or an equivalent professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, AAT or CA Sri Lanka.
✅Qualified accountant status (ACCA, CIMA, ACA/ICAEW or CA Sri Lanka).
✅3–4 years of experience working with UK clients in an accounting/practice environment.
🌟 Technical Knowledge
✅Strong working knowledge of UK GAAP/FRS 102 and UK corporation tax principles.
✅Personal tax: Self Assessment, partnership returns, property income and capital gains, including 60-day UK property reporting.
✅ VAT: VAT returns, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT, registration, VAT schemes and the domestic reverse charge.
✅Accounts receivable & payable: sales and purchase ledgers, payment runs, credit control and bank reconciliations.
✅Companies House: filing deadlines, confirmation statements and iXBRL tagging.
✅Strong general awareness of UK tax rules across personal and corporate taxation.
🌟 Skills & Attributes
✅Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel; experience with cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) is preferred.
✅Excellent command of both spoken and written English, with confidence and professionalism.
✅High level of accuracy, organisation and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
