Vintage British Movie Magazines
ORIGINAL VINTAGE MOVIE LEAFLETS
(cash only or bank transfer on inspection )
You may be aware that in the early days of cinema, patrons
were handed leaflets at the theatres. Though the early films were in
black and white, the leaflets (called Handbills in the U.S.A.) were printed
in full colour on quality paper by the American Movie Studios. The British
studios too printed leaflets relating to the films made by them.
I have a collection of over 1000 leaflets dating back to the Silent Era
of 1923 through the Golden Age of cinema and ending in 1957. Leaflets unlike
movie posters were NEVER reprinted when the old movies were re-released. The
custom of issuing leaflets gradually came to a stop due to the
prohibitive cost of printing and the drop in cinema attendance with the
advent of Television. My collection includes the ORIGINAL leaflet issued
in 1923 for Cecil B DeMille's FIRST version of "The Ten Commandments",
the FIRST version of M.G.M's "BEN HUR" with Ramon Navarre, hits of Greta Garbo,
John Barrymore, Clark Gable, Marlene Dietrich, John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin,
Doughlas Fairbanks Senior, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and many other leading
stars of yester year. I have enclosed photographs of a few of them herewith.
My collection also include some very rare KENSITAS cigarette cards of movie
stars of the silent era and some of the ORIGINAL programmes issued by cinemas
like the Tivoli and the Plaza in London. All these are in 2 large albums
of 18" X 12" in size.
The above is an absolute treasure for a student of Movie History.
I am 88 years old and I feel it is my duty to ensure that this rare collection
falls into the possession of a responsible individual who will see that the
collection is preserved for this generation and the coming generations.
I have priced Rs.1,500,000/= for BOTH volumes.
