Ceylonese Historically Tazza 19th-Century

The object in the image is a traditional brass betel stand, also known as a paan stand or Heppuwa, which is a type of tazza. These items are typically used to hold the accoutrements for betel nut, a mild stimulant common in South and Southeast Asia.

It is likely an antique, possibly from 19th-century Sri Lanka, where such items are common.

The stand is cast using the "lost wax" process and finished by hand.

It is designed with a hollow, cast, supporting pedestal and a stepped, flaring foot.

The rim of the bowl features repeating reticulating "lancet" form decoration.
